Anita Taylor: A Veteran Feminist at NCA
By Brenna Ruiz-Gordon
"I came for the first time in 1967 and I have missed only once since then," said Anita Taylor as she explained to a few NCA freshmen and women the reason why she's been attending the conference for more than 30 years.
Taylor is a retired professor still teaching at George Mason University and a Lifetime Member of the NCA. The focus of her career has been how communication creates gender and how gender influences communication.
Asked if there was anything in particular that she was looking forward to attend at this year's convention, Taylor shared the two main reasons that bring her here every year. The first is catching up with long-time colleagues and friends. The second, learning about the new developments in feminism and feminist theory.
Having taken part in this national event for so many consecutive years, Taylor has been a front row witness to remarkable changes regarding the role of women within the NCA. "In the beginning there were only eleven women here, it has changed a lot" she said.
