Abstract:

Web-based ancillaries, like interactive exercises and self-directed quizzes, are commonplace, but why? Publishers aggressively market texts having extensive web-based supplements; how useful are these to basic course instructors? How do instructional staff (graduate students and adjuncts with little training and minimal background) perceive ancillary use? This Internet-based national study of BCC instructors will examine instructor perceptions of web-based basic course text ancillaries. Previous studies examined student perceptions, but how do instructors view these materials? This national study will fill in missing perceptual pieces.
