Abstract:In this paper I make the argument that traditional qualitative ethics are grounded in a static notion of self that exists in tension with postmodern sensibilities. Drawing from Holstein and Gubrium (2000) and Tracy and Trethewey (2004) I use my own experiences within the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps as justification for the introduction of a more nuanced narrated self into qualitative research that opens up new possibilities and problems for the researcher.
