In search of the global citizen

Aside from the great opportunity to observe an participate in the largest Communication event in the US, my trip to the 94th NCA unCONVENTIONAL convention will serve as subject of research for my Global Communications final project.
Throughout the semester, under the guidance of PhD Gregory Payne, my peers and I have discussed the impact of communications, politics, public diplomacy, and the media in intercultural relations around the globe. A key concept for global communicators has spurred from these discussions: Global Citizenship.
What exactly does Global Citizenship mean? What defines a Global Citizen? Who can be called a Global Citizen? Am I or can I become one?
From a communicator's perspective, given the role public and private organizations play across dissolving boundaries, it is an ethical priority to understand the concept and work towards cultivating a sense of humanity in our audiences. Therefore, during my time covering the events and activities at the NCA convention I will also be searching for answers to the question of How can a communications professional become a Global Citizen and impact our world?
