Abstract:This ethnographic study explores how student, faculty, and organizational gender biases contribute to a "doublebind" for female professors. A connection is postulated between unique standards of master's level graduate advising and feminine styles of interaction as an opportunity to acknowledge, evaluate, and reward feminine contributions in academia. This research concludes with suggestions for improving advisor training and advisor evaluation at the master's level.
