Sunshine, Communication, and Flip Cameras...We are here NCA!
By Heather Martyn -- 11/20/08 After waking up at 3:30 am, east coast time, to another freezing Boston morning, I boarded a plane and flew across the United States in hopes of not only meeting some of the nation's greatest and most intellectual minds in the field of communication, but to seek out the sun and warmth as well. Luckily when I finally arrived in San Diego, I was greeted with a warm breeze and a wonderful, sunny day. Not only is San Diego a beautiful city, but the NCA conference was bustling with people who were pre-registering and taking part in the pre-conference seminars. The energy was radiating from the Hyatt, as people greeted one another, looked through the program, and decided on panels to attend throughout the weekend.
This is my first time visiting California and is also my first experience with the NCA conference, so my excitement level is at an all time peak! Armed with a flip camera and audio recorder I set out to talk to people. My main interest was in the NCA-F/Start Pre-Conference poster session. I was able to speak with many of the scholars that were part of the forum. While speaking with them, I was primarily seeking an explanation of their research and findings.
I am looking forward to tomorrow when the panels officially begin, when my flip camera and I will seek out panelists and pick their minds for insights into various communication strategies and research results. The NCA Press Team is here and armed with cameras, audio recorders, and note pads in hopes of recording and documenting the events of the 2008 NCA Conference, and I've never been more excited!
