Toward a Poststructural Ideograph: An Unconventional Reading of McGee's Ideograph

Abstract:

This paper reads Michael Calvin McGee's ideograph from an unconventional (poststructuralist) perspective. While many scholars have used McGee's ideograph to reach important conclusions, this paper argues that a poststructuralist reading of the ideograph will circumvent the problems of structure and the metaphysics of presence latent in McGee's thesis. This paper argues that by reading the ideograph poststructurally, we may even be able to reinvigorate the study of ideographs that has waned in the past decade.
